Girls' Weekend

Two weekends ago, I got to go to Lake Travis with 4 friends from college for a girls' weekend.  My awesome husband took care of Ellie and obliged my many requests for pictures (this was my first time to leave Ellie overnight!).  The weekend was so refreshing and it was so good to be with these girls have known me for almost 10 years now (at least!).  We spent good time talking about what's going on in our lives.  It's always good when you feel like you can pick up right where you left off.

We &#9829 Texas

Nick and I have been talking lately about how we are really grateful to be in Texas again, even though we definitely do miss our life (especially our friends!) in Boston.  Here's a quick list of 5 things we're super grateful for... or, as correct grammar would have me say, "things for which we are super grateful." 


#1 Having Family Nearby
What can I say?  We love getting to spend time with Debbie and Joe and Nick's sister Melissa and brother Michael here in Tyler, and it definitely doesn't hurt that Nick's parents are so kind and have babysat for us a lot!  So thankful for that, Debbie!  My sister and Nick's sister can drive 2 hours and *bam!* they're here.  My parents can hop in the car and come up for the weekend too (although it was a bit longer of a drive...)!

#2 The Lake - I think I had forgotten how much I love being on the lake!  We've gotten to go out on a boat almost once a week since we've been here, and it is so fun. 

# 3 Tex Mex - I'm not ashamed to tell you that we've eaten Tex Mex at least once a week since moving back.  Nope, not ashamed at all.

#4 Quick Trips to Dallas - I love that I can just hop in my car and drive a couple of hours to Dallas to visit friends and family there, pretty much anytime!  I've done this twice already... once I decided the morning of, and I was there by lunch!  Below: Ellie and Emily, Erin and me with Emily's son Sam, Amy and her boys meeting Ellie for the first time, and a quick pic at my sister's birthday dinner!

#5 New Friends
Although we miss having friends that know us really well and that we have a history with, it's been fun to meet new people here in Tyler.  We really like everyone we've met and have gotten to hang out with and are excited to get to know them better!

Bummer!  I didn't win the Zac Brown Band competition, but I'm so honored to have made it to the top 25 out of 700 entries.  ZBB actually heard my song too, which is pretty fun.  Thanks for rooting for me, everyone!

So You Think You Can Dance

Ok, it's embarrassing, but I'm really excited about the So You Think You Can Dance finale this week.  Thanks to my friend Erin, I'm completely in love with this show.  It's funny, but I was hanging out with my college friends this weekend, and it turns out that 3 out of the 4 of us were semi-obsessed with SYTYCD (as we like to call it), and it was all because of our friend Erin turning us onto it.  :)

Ellie is 5 Months!

Ellie turned 5 months old on August 6!  We are having a lot of fun with her, and she is growing and doing so many new things every day.

She's a little one, in the 13th percentile for weight, but she's feisty and strong and a mover! She hates being strapped down in her car seat, or having to sit still in one place.  It seems like she loves music... Exhibit A: sometimes when she gets fussy I'll lay her down and play the guitar/sing for her and - amazingly - she quiets and just listens and stares for about 15 minutes!  I am treasuring those times.

She's currently into chewing, facing out, playing her piano, Baby Einstein, rolling and scootching backwards, and being around lots of people.  She is also into waking up early (in the 5's) and not loving long naps (both of which I'm not so into, but that's ok) :).

Rewind: 4th of July!

How did I never post about the 4th of July?!  I know this is super late, but we had SO much fun with our old friends the Smiths and the Fraziers and Jason.  They all came up to Tyler and we stayed at Nick's parents' place and played on the lake (thank you so much Debbie and Joe!).  Ellie did great on the boat and looked pretty much hilarious in her huge yellow life jacket.  These friends know us well and we really enjoyed being with them and catching up with them.  We are thankful for them!
